Meet the characters from The Funky Phantom
What makes that phantom so...funky?
We have another great cartoon on the Cartoon Carousel! From October 12 through 16, the MeTV Toons Cartoon Carousel is featuring The Funky Phantom! A perfectly spooky cartoon as we get closer and closer to Halloween.
Here's a quick refresher on the characters in The Funky Phantom!
Mudsy the Funky Phantom
Originally, his name was Jonathan Wellington Muddlemore, but everyone calls him Mudsy! Although he was an American Patriot and introduced himself to the kids as "The spirit of 1776, even!", Mudsy is a huge coward. While still alive, he ran away from some Redcoats and hid in a grandfather clock with his cat, Boo, but they couldn't get out and passed away inside the clock. 200 years later, April, Augie, and Skip accidentally opened the clock, and Mudsy's ghost was freed. He is the paternal figure of the group, and despite his cowardice, he has moments of bravery where he uses his ghost abilities to help the group.
Mudsy was voiced by Daws Butler.
Boo
Boo is Mudsy's pet, and her hat is even cooler than his! Boo is very mischievous and loves messing with Elmo, but she's always quick to help Elmo when there's real trouble. Boo is voiced by Don Messick.
Elmo
Elmo is Augie's pet bulldog, and whenever he's not chasing Boo, he is the mascot of their high school football team and competes as a show dog. He was voiced by Don Messick.
April Stewart
April is the lead investigator of the group and is often the driving force encouraging the others to get involved in an investigation. Out of all the teens, she is the closest with Mugsy, and she is also on the high school cheerleading squad. April was voiced by Kristina Holland, who also played Stephanie in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kids.
Augie Anderson
Augie is Elmo's owner, and while he can be stern with Elmo, he is always bragging about how great his dog is. He also has a bit of a rivalry with Skip because he's the muscle of the team, but he also has strong investigative skills. Augie was voiced by Tommy Cook, who also voiced Biff in Jabberjaw and S. Melvin Farthinggale in Jeannie.
Skip Gilroy
Skip is the brain to Augie's brawn, and he is the owner of the Looney Duney, making him the team driver. While he and Augie often have personality clashes, at the end of the day they are close friends and great teammates. Skip was voiced by Micky Dolenz, who has acted in both The Monkees and Butch Cassidy.
